Despite the pandemic, the Florida Alliance continues to feature highly accomplished speakers who are leaders in their field. Each session in the Summer Education Series featured nationally renowned experts who shared best practices and case studies on session topics and commented on related Florida Alliance initiatives. A key element of the presentations and discussion was what role providers, employers/purchasers, health plans, manufacturers, PBMs and patients need to play to move efforts toward affordable, quality heath care forward.

Approximately 13 percent of Americans experience migraine headaches, a recurring type of headache that causes severe, throbbing or pulsing pain and can be accompanied by nausea and sensitivity to light and sound. In the working population, migraine headache is the fifth most disabling medical condition in the United States.

A considerable portion of the nearly $631 billion dollars in economic costs (estimated total US costs from 2015-2018) of the opioid crisis is borne by employers, including increased spending on health care and lost productivity. To better manage their financial risks and improve the health of their employees, employers should consider strategies that encompass both preventative and supportive measures to help those experiencing opioid use disorder (OUD) better manage their conditions and move toward recovery.

The National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions announced its slate of new officers for the Board of Governors. Karen van Caulil, President and CEO of the Florida Alliance for Healthcare Value, was newly re-elected as a Representative on the Board. Officers are elected by their board peers based on proven leadership and commitment to the National Alliance, as well as their efforts to advance and strengthen value-based purchasing strategies.
