Karen van Caulil, PhD

President and Chief Executive Officer

Karen van Caulil, PhD, joined the Florida Alliance for Healthcare Value in 2011 as President and CEO. She leads this nationally recognized business coalition on health, overseeing all activities and operations including research projects, educational programs, conferences, and member engagement. Dr. van Caulil previously served in leadership positions for the University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Medicine and the Health Council of East Central Florida. 

A respected leader in her field, Dr. van Caulil represents the Florida Alliance’s mission and work locally, regionally, and nationally, actively serving on numerous boards, advisory committees, and workgroups for organizations such as the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions, The Leapfrog Group, Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration, the Florida Department of Health, and many others.

Dr. van Caulil graduated from Duke University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and completion of the “Science, Technology and Human Values” degree program. She received a Master of Science in Public Health in Health Policy and Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an interdisciplinary Doctorate in Public Affairs from the University of Central Florida. Dr. van Caulil was named “Outstanding Alumni” from the University of Central Florida’s College of Health and Public Affairs in 2012 and under her leadership, the Florida Alliance received the Member Leadership Award from the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions in 2018.

Jack Mahoney, MD, MPH

Medical Director

An experienced healthcare strategist and employee health expert, Jack Mahoney, MD, MPH, joined the Florida Alliance for Healthcare Value in 2008, and provides our staff and members with guidance and leadership on value-based benefit design and clinical matters. Prior to joining us, he served Pitney Bowes as Strategic Healthcare Initiatives Director where he was responsible for health-related programs, including active and retiree medical benefits, on-site medical clinics, disability management, and wellness programs. His team developed innovative healthcare initiatives, including the launch of the first value-based benefit programs. Dr. Mahoney’s career experience also includes serving as a partner at Hewitt Associates, a human resources consulting firm, and as medical director for GTE Corporation.

Dr. Mahoney earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and completed residency training in aerospace medicine at Brooks Air Force Base in Texas as well as a psychiatric residency at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York. He also holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and completed his undergraduate education at Boston College.

Ashley Tait-Dinger, MBA

Vice President

Ashley Tait-Dinger, MBA is the Vice President of the Florida Alliance for Healthcare Value. She has been with the organization since 2012. Ashley is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of all healthcare cost and quality data collection, analysis, and dissemination activities for employer/purchaser strategies, research projects, and payment reform initiatives. 

Ashley leads all Florida activities with The Leapfrog Group in the organization’s role as Regional Leader in the state. She works closely with Florida Alliance employer/purchaser members to understand the individual measures and how the results impact both the employers and the employees. Ashley also developed market-based reports for the employer/purchaser members that demonstrate the performance of each hospital for key measures of concern. These reports are instrumental in meetings with hospitals to discuss quality improvement and patient safety. She also participates on Leapfrog’s  Employer Panel of Benefit Innovators.

Ashley is a member of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Hospital Harms Technical Expert Panel, the National Quality Forum Cardiovascular Standing Committee, and the American College of Cardiology National Cardiovascular Data Registry Public Reporting Advisory Workgroup.

Ashley received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Central Florida and her Master of Business Administration from Rollins College.

Lisa Hain, MBA

Administrative Coordinator

Lisa Hain, MBA, became our Administrative Coordinator in 2014, and is in charge of scheduling meetings, making travel arrangements, and organizing our educational events. She also provides support to our research projects and communicates regularly with members regarding our initiatives and programs. Lisa earned her Master’s in Business Administration from Boston University and completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Management at Syracuse University.
