The Florida Alliance for Healthcare Value’s proven track record of collectively addressing value-based design, evidence-based best practice, and employee engagement in health care has resulted in a number of achievements:

Regional Leader of The Leapfrog Group in Florida, a national nonprofit organization focused on improving health care through measuring and publicly reporting hospital and ambulatory surgery center safety and quality performance

Founding member of eValue8, the nation’s leading evidence-based request for information tool created by business coalitions and employers like US Bank, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Marriott International to define, measure, and evaluate health plan performance

Created value-based benefit design programs for our employer members in diabetes, cardiovascular, and oncology

Conducted research projects that explored and defined actionable benefit design and patient engagement solutions for a number of critical health issues in Florida, including:

  • The opioid epidemic
  • Eliminating medical unnecessary C-sections
  • Reducing prematurity in high-risk populations
  • Diabetes prevention and treatment
  • Cancer care and case management
  • Hypertension and cardiac care
  • Asthma

Led numerous community health events and education initiatives, including:

  • Amanda the Panda — a grief support program
  • Babies, Business, and the Bottom Line – a comprehensive strategy for covering pregnancy and delivery
  • Employer Learning Collaboratives – Diabetes/Obesity, Oncology, The Path Forward for Mental Health and Substance Use – Regional Employer Stakeholder Team, Better Pain Management, Enhanced Recovery After Surgery/Enhanced Recovery After Delivery
  • Know Your Numbers — for chronic disease prevention and management
  • Open Airways — for asthma management
  • Safe Surgery Checklist – a patient safety communication tool used by surgical teams
  • Text4Baby — an app to promote maternal health
  • The Paul O’Neill Pledge — an effort to encourage people not to accept a prescription if they can’t read the writing
  • What Employers Can Do to Impact the Opioid Epidemic – a toolkit and training with benefit design and policy changes and an education campaign

Held regional and statewide conferences and workshops to convene employers around issues such as healthcare reform, hospital and drug pricing, transparency, patient safety, and chronic disease management (e.g., oncology, diabetes, mental health/substance use)

Partnered with the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions (formerly the National Business Coalition on Health) and national foundations such as the United Health Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation on projects of national significance

Led efforts to develop Florida’s transparency websites: Florida Health Finder and Florida Health Price Finder

Published our research in national, peer-reviewed journals such as Health Affairs, American Drug and Health Benefit, Journal of Asthma, American Journal of Pharmacy Benefits, American Journal of Managed Care, and Managed Care

Our work has also received national recognition, including:

Named a 2020 Excellence Award Winner for Care Management Strategies by the Pharmacy Benefit Manager Institute (PBMI) for our Cancer Navigator program
Received the 2018 Membership Leadership Award from the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions for our work in episode of care bundled payments
Featured on ABC’s World News Tonight in 2012 regarding our work promoting “The Conversation Project”
Featured in the New York Times in 2001 about our early adoption of pay-for-performance as a means to improve quality
Received the Value Based Purchasing Membership Award from the National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH) in 2008
