The Florida Alliance for Healthcare Value is an employer-led research and education organization that brings together benefits leaders and healthcare stakeholders to develop and implement innovative improvements in healthcare cost, quality, transparency and safety in Florida.

Two New Employer Resources

The Employer Guide and Insights for Oncology Managment is based on an Oncology Employer Learning Collaborative (ELC) undertaken with the Florida Alliance for Healthcare Value and Midwest Business Group on Health employer members and the important work done by the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), and the National Cancer Treatment Alliance (NCTA). Staff and Employer Members of the Florida Alliance and MBGH were active participants in the development of the toolkits and checklists that these organizations developed for employers to better manage their cancer population. A review of these resources was done with both coalitions and their Employer Members during the collaborative and in other settings.

During the ELC, the Employer Members shared the approaches they are taking to optimize cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment, as well as how they are supporting care navigation, paying for care, and helping affected employees return to work. A goal of participating Employer Members was to extend life while improving quality of life, improve productivity, and better manage costs. This toolkit includes many of their insights, strategies, and best practices.

The Mental Health Parity Compliance Employer/Healthcare Purchaser Toolkit was developed in partnership with the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions. This much-needed initiative was funded by Orange County Government and the Bowman Family Foundation.

The Toolkit will greatly assist employers with how to work with their TPAs (and carve out mental health providers, if applicable) on ensuring appropriate analysis of their mental health/substance use disorder data as it compares to their medical/surgical health data.

It is recommended that you review all the materials and send the Non-Quantitative Treatment Limit (NQTL) Tools to your TPA/carrier/service provider as explained in the toolkit as soon as possible. Most analyses the TPAs/carriers/service providers have done to date have not met the expectations of the Department of Labor, who is stepping up enforcement of the law.  Please note that both self-funded and fully insured employers have a fiduciary duty to ensure compliance as described in the toolkit.
